Since having a baby, my relationship with my parents have changed being that I appreciate them a lot more.

It’s been a springboard for me to ask her a lot of questions that I never would have asked had I not become a mom. I would say it’s inspiring and humbling and—and being able to tell her that’s really important.

In some ways, I’ve needed my parents even more now. Once I had kids and two of my children were very ill, I relied a lot on my mom.

My relationship with my parents actually got better just because now I’m like, “Oh, that’s why you were so strict with me back then.” And I really—whenever I needed their support, they always there. We Skype like twice a day.

I call them the Facebook grandparents. They want to see the status updates. They want to see the pictures. They want to feel like they know what’s going on, but they don’t actually want to participate so much. So, that’s actually—it’s been a pretty serious strain on my relationship with them.

After having children, our relationship with our—the grandparents became tighter. They became more accommodating. They want to be more involved.

I became closer with my mom. Likewise with my dad. He just dotes on his little granddaughters and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him. So, we’re closer than ever.
